Provincial Bank of Canada 610-10-02 1856 $1 F12 hole cancelled PMG. Hole punch stamped on the notes bottom. A rare banknotes issues from a very rare bank. Founded in 1856 the bank only survived 7 years before closing its doors in 1863. The Provincial Bank of Canada only issued a total of $160,000 in all denominations the vast majority of which was redeemed by December 1865 as any negligible amount not returned by then was rendered worthless. A rare chartered note from a rare chartered bank. Only two $1 notes are recorded on PMG's population report with this being the finest known and the other grading as a Fair-2. Searching through past auction records we cant find a single sale earlier than 7 years for any notes issued by this bank. Likely a once in a decade chance to own a note from this rare bank.
